Flash Crazy - Chinese websites love it

February 22, 2006 @ 4:30 am

What is it with flash that each and any chinese webdesigner thinks only FLASH, FLASH.

I want info and am in no mood to wait for some shitty music to be downloaded or some very in-active dazzling movie that must have swept the ordering director of his feet.

And no, it’s not user-friendly to have the “skip” button the last, or worse have it not loaded at all so I, the customer, have to wait until the designer has finished showing me his latest abberation.

Just stop it. If you are restaurant, I want to know your address, the food you serve and maybe some sponsered reviews. I prefer to have your address in English and Chinese Characters that I can print out and show my taxi driver. No, I don’t want a .pdf file.

Keep it simple and open your online door the way you do when I enter your physical business. I am sure you won’t force me there to see a dance first, hear the menu song after which you let me in.

Some examples:

http://www.cateringsolutions.com.cn/ Where is your English address, how the hell am I supposed to print it.

http://www.valleygourmet.com/

Disclaimer. I have eaten here, their food is nice and the physical location is convenient and no one makes it hard for me to order. But why have I got to enter first before finding address info hidden in a pdf file?

Wait, wait, lovely useless flash and no contact form. (will write about that another time) Greatest asset, an embedded email address I can’t even copy.

  2. Nice comment. It takes time I think before websites will be more usable, at least from our perspective.

Do you have any examples of your students’ websites.
